Understanding the treatment

Bone grafting

A graft may be considered when significant bone loss has occurred. The graft can use either the patient’s own bone or a bone substitute.

This evolving technique aims to limit surgery and improve comfort while supporting the tooth and surrounding gum. Bone takes an average of four months for an autogenous graft to six months to consolidate.

This type of graft is used when the gum lacks stability or has receded. It aims to increase gum thickness or height and relieve everyday tooth sensitivity.

Gum grafting

In most cases, the dentist uses tissue taken from the palate, with little discomfort. A thin plate protects the donor site for the first five days of healing. Techniques continue to evolve towards less traumatic procedures, good results and rapid healing.
